Mobile tail lift repairs — a lift down is a vehicle down
A tail lift fault doesn't stop the vehicle driving, which is exactly what makes it expensive. The truck can still get to the drop; it just can't do anything when it arrives. That's a full round's worth of deliveries held up by a platform that won't lower. Tail lift repairs near you, on-site, is nearly always cheaper than re-planning the day around it.
Our engineers attend on the roadside, at the delivery point, or in your yard, 24 hours a day and UK-wide. The majority of tail lift faults we see are fixed at the vehicle on the first visit.
Tail lift repair for every make
We work across the makes you'll actually be running:
- Dhollandia — column, cantilever and tuck-away units.
- Anteo — retractable and folding platforms.
- Zepro — column lifts on rigids and vans.
- Ratcliff Palfinger — column and cantilever ranges.
- Bär Cargolift — cantilever and slider units.
Plus shutter doors and load-securing equipment on the same vehicle, which is often what's actually failed when a driver reports "the back end won't work".
The faults we're called out to most
- Won't lift or won't hold. Hydraulic leaks, a tired pump, worn rams or seals — the classic "it goes up empty but not loaded".
- Won't power at all. Usually electrical: the isolator, a corroded earth, a failed solenoid, or a battery that can't carry the lift's draw. Tail lifts are brutal on batteries.
- Platform won't fold, tilt or sit level. Bent or worn linkage, seized pivots, a failed tilt ram.
- Safety and control faults. Foot controls, hand pendants, interlocks and warning systems that stop the lift operating as designed.
- Physical damage. Kerb strikes, dock impacts and overloading — the ones that need a straight answer on repair versus replace.
LOLER, and the thing that catches operators out
A tail lift is lifting equipment under LOLER 1998, which means thorough examination at statutory intervals regardless of how well it's running. A lift that works fine can still put you out of compliance if its examination has lapsed. We've written up what the law actually asks for in our guide to tail lift LOLER inspections — worth a read if you're not certain where your fleet stands.
Nationwide tail lift service
We're a nationwide network, so a tail lift service near you generally means an engineer already covering your area rather than one travelling from a single depot. Areas we cover for tail lift breakdowns include (but are not limited to) Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Luton, Glasgow, Bristol and Southampton.
