EV breakdown service — flat traction battery, flat 12V, or something else

"The van's dead" means at least three different jobs on an electric vehicle, and getting the right engineer out first time depends on telling them apart. Our EV breakdown service covers all three, 24 hours a day, UK-wide.

• Flat traction battery. The main pack is at zero and the vehicle won't move. This is the one people mean by EV battery breakdown, and it's the one a jump pack won't touch.
• Flat 12V battery. Far more common than most drivers expect. The 12V system still runs the locks, dash and contactors, and when it dies the vehicle is immobile even with a full traction pack. Usually a quick fix.
• Charging fault. The vehicle won't accept a charge, or a public charger has failed mid-session and left you short. Diagnosis on-site.

Mobile EV recharge and EV-rated recovery

Where a mobile EV battery service can put enough charge in to reach a working charge point, that's the fastest route back on the road and we'll do it at the roadside. Where it can't — a genuine pack fault, a damaged vehicle, or nowhere viable to charge — the vehicle goes on a flatbed.

That flatbed matters. An EV with a flat traction battery generally cannot be towed on its driven wheels without risking the motor and drivetrain, and a damaged pack has its own handling requirements. EV recovery through our network goes on suitable equipment with operators who know how to isolate and load one properly.

Electric vans and commercial EVs

Most of our EV work is fleet work — electric vans on multi-drop rounds, where a vehicle stuck at drop 40 of 90 is a route problem as much as a vehicle problem. We're a commercial vehicle breakdown business first, so the response is built around getting the round finished, not just recovering the van.

Range anxiety is what people talk about; charging-infrastructure anxiety is what actually strands drivers. A planned charge stop that's occupied, broken or ICE'd is one of the most common reasons we get called to an electric van with plenty of pack health and nowhere to plug in.
